Astro in the Venus
The Punta Doncella lighthouse, together with the Punta Almina lighthouse in Ceuta, emit the two luminous signals that help ships enter the Strait of Gibraltar.
The first lighthouse at Punta Doncella was designed in 1861. It was a circular tower designed by the engineer Antonio Molina, and was 8.5 meters high, which together with the natural height of the land, placed it 18 meters above sea level.
To make it more visible, the old tower was replaced by the current one in 1922, making it 20 meters high and 31 meters above sea level, with an octagonal floor plan of carved stone.
The assistance facilities were also enlarged, as well as the house where successive lighthouse keepers have lived over the years, who together with their families have ensured that sailors reached their destinations safely.
