Discover a fascinating historical enclave where ancient cultures intertwine, offering visitors a unique experience of exploration and learning.

About 4 kilometers away from Casares, on a high promontory known as Cortijo Alechipe and facing west towards the rivers Genal and Guadiaro, are the remains of Lacipo.

Located in a very important enclave amidst the rich lands irrigated by the rivers Genal and Guadiaro, and a necessary means of communication with the mountain villages, it was most likely founded by the communities that inhabited the territory, extraordinarily influenced by the Phoenician-Punic world, and that reorganized themselves to face the imperialist interests of Carthage for strategic control of this region of the peninsula.

After a phase of decadence in the 4th and 5th centuries, the settlement was populated again in the 6th and 7th centuries, and a Visigoth cemetery was built over the ancient remains from the classical period.

It was registered as a monument of Cultural Interest in 1985 and the entire area has been protected as an Archaeological Zone since 1996.
